What’s the best thing you’ve ever found randomly on the street?
I cannot recall ever finding something on the street that I used or took home. Is that strange? And I do not go out onto the street too often to give me the opportunity to find something.
Maybe a person I have met? But, tbh, I have no friends and little connection with anyone. So … nothing!
LYRICS All we do is hide away All we do is, all we do is hide away All we do is chase the day All we do is, all we do is chase the day
All we do is lie and wait All we do is, all we do is lie and wait All we do is feel the fade All we do is, all we do is feel the fade
I’ve been upside down I don’t wanna be the right way round Can’t find paradise on the ground I’ve been upside down I don’t wanna be the right way round Can’t find paradise on the ground
All we do is hide away All we do is, all we do is hide away All we do is chase the day All we do is, all we do is chase the day
All we do is play it safe All we do is live inside a cage All we do is play it safe All we do, all we do
I’ve been upside down I don’t wanna be the right way round Can’t find paradise on the ground I’ve been upside down I don’t wanna be the right way round Can’t find paradise on the ground
All we do is hide away All we do is, all we do is hide away All we do is chase the day All we do is, all we do is chase the day
All I did was fail today All I wanna be is whites in waves All I did was fail today All we do, all we do
What’s the kindest thing someone has ever done for you?
Many people do many kind things in secret everyday. And many people dress up kindness as a way to hurt and belittle people. Evil intent destroys kindness. I have experienced both!
So what is the kindest thing? I cannot single out anyone or anything. People have allowed me to be me – and that is pure kindness. And people have encouraged me to be open about my failings – and that is pure kindness. Random people have smiled – and that is pure kindness. There are many things that I have experienced that people may not thought of as a kindness but were pure kindness to me.
Canon XLII. Those who are called Eremites and are clothed in black robes, and with long hair go about cities and associate with the worldly both men and women and bring odium upon their profession—we decree that if they will receive the habit of other monks and wear their hair cut short, they may be shut up in a monastery and numbered among the brothers; but if they do not choose to do this, they are to be expelled from the cities and forced to live in the desert (ἐρήμους) from whence also they derive their name.
Council of Trullo (692)
Hermits who were not monks have tended to keep both beards and hair uncut, although there have been and are exceptions. This has been based less on any specific prescription relating to hair rather than
following the tradition and practice of the earliest Hermits;
as a sign of lack of interest in or concern about physical appearance;
to minimise the need to pay attention to personal adornment through regular shaving and/or hair cutting;
as a reaction against worldly fashion (although this has raised some concerns at times when beards and/or long hair were the height of popular fashion!).
If the salary was the same, what job would you be doing right now and why?
I am living my dream – a life of prayer and fasting focused on Jesus. Yes, I am weak and often stumble. And, yes, I lack humility and insight. But I would not do anything different.
Yes, there are aspects that I might work on. And money is always an issue. And I had to move away from my “forever home”. But this life is my vocation – my calling. I have to adjust and make myself worthy. But this is my dream and I would not change anything.
Share a hobby you’ve picked up recently — what got you into it?
I collect icon postcards – holy cards. Absolutely love it! My favourites are collected in a book – my holy book. I like that they are not the “standard” and that the book is the same size as my Prayer Book – a mobile collection for prayer anytime and anyplace.
I like icons and these are mobile and cheaper. The size is perfect! Also there are icons which are not so common – like St Olga. Anyway …
What if, hear me out, the west has misunderstood the doctrine of the Trinity? And, what if, because of this misunderstanding there is such a decline in religious participation?
I mean, what if the filique is just as important as the eastern churches claim it to be?
And what if Nietzsche is right: the west has made God a metaphysical principle?
