I love a good real crime show. So I watched Should I marry a murder?. I am also half way through The Staircase.
Something I have noticed, in my ignorance, is how often people who are the subject of these documentaries say, “I am a good person”. But, methinks, being a murder for whatever reason excludes you from being a “good person”. The very act defines “badness”.
Does intention matter? Of course it does. But saving yourself does not mean you are a “good person”. Does not the act itself define good and bad?
We all like to think of ourselves as good. But what does that really mean? Maybe we should simply ditch the “good / bad” distinction? And good “for me” maybe bad “for you”. Nietzsche would perhaps say that good is another way of saying useful.
Anyway, more crime documentaries for me today.
